In accordance with article 38, caput of federal law 9610/1998, as well as article 14 of the Berne Convention, promulgated in Brazil through decree 75699/1975, the owner of this artistic work, when commercializing it, must transfer it to the artist or his successors, as a resale right, the amount corresponding to 50% (fifty) of the profit that may be earned with this new commercial transaction (resale) within a period of 30 days. If the author does not receive his resale right within the stipulated period, the seller is considered depositary of the amount owed to him, unless the transaction is carried out by an auctioneer, when this will be the depositary (as determined in the sole paragraph of article 38 of the federal law 9610/1998).
Anna Bella Geiger (1933, Rio de Janeiro) is a versatile artist, trained in Anglo-Germanic language and literature. He began his artistic studies in the 1950s with Fayga Ostrower and continued in New York, between 1953 and 1955, attending art history and sociology classes. Back in Brazil, he participated in the metal engraving studio at MAM/RJ and began teaching there in 1963. He had academic experiences in the USA again in 1969 and 1982. He published a book on Brazilian abstractionism in 1987. His work is marked by experimentation with diverse materials and a poetic exploration of the cartographic system. Geiger values experimentation as essential for an artist's performance. The artist has works in museums such as Beaubourg, MoMA, Tate Modern, Getty, among others.
